Educational Trust
The Trust was set up in 1989 by Maxell Europe Ltd to express the Company’s appreciation for the support it had received from the local community.
A sum of £300,000 was invested which generates income for the trust, which subject to fund availability, the trustees wish to award on a regular basis. Since 1990, more than £505,000 has been given out in either small or large awards. If you wish to be considered for an award please follow the guidelines below.The objectives of the Trust include furtherance of all or any of the following purposes:-
- The provision of educational grants to students attending schools or colleges within Telford & Wrekin Council or whose family home is within the area.
- The furtherance of research projects by teachers working within the boundaries of Telford & Wrekin Council and publication of useful results of such research.
- Grants will be available to students between the ages of 9 and 25 and to teachers.
- Projects will be considered from schools, small groups or from individuals.
- There is no restriction on the subject matter that can be covered but the Trustees, when considering projects, will look for initiative and innovation and particularly hope to receive applications with industrial or technological content. Projects associated with the curriculum will be considered if alternative funding is not available.
- Those who apply for a MET award should prepare a brief outline proposal of the project to be considered, including scope, aims or objective, proposal detail including costs and award required? Those applications that do not submit enough information may be requested to supply additional information.
- Those who receive awards must be prepared to partake in publicity and send a report, including accounts on the use of the grant to the administrator no later than twelve months from the award date.
- The Trust will not offer awards to finance courses, or travel or solely for equipment.
- A panel, including invited members of the local community, will consider applications and make recommendations to the Trustees who will make the final decision on an application.
- The trustees meet at least once a year or more often when sufficient applications have been received.
