Maxell Unveils Breakthrough in All-Solid-State Battery Technology, Unlocking Longer Lifespan and Superior Safety.

Maxell Ltd, has announced a major advancement in next generation of battery research by elucidating the capacity degradation mechanism of sulfide-based all-solid-state batteries, a technology poised to transform the future of energy storage.

In their latest study, Maxell revealed that capacity reduction in all-solid-state batteries is primarily caused by State of Charge (SOC) imbalances between electrodes, rather than material degradation. The research also confirms that these batteries experience significantly lower side reaction currents compared to traditional liquid based lithium-ion batteries, contributing to their outstanding longevity and safety.

Published in the Journal of Power Sources, these findings pave the way for highly accurate lifetime predictions and enhanced reliability in the design of all-solid-state batteries. Maxell is leveraging this breakthrough to accelerate the development of heat-resistant, high-performance batteries for electric vehicles, renewable energy storage systems, IOP infrastructure and industrial equipment operating in extreme conditions. This innovation marks a significant step towards the realisation of a sustainable, energy efficient society.
